Dear Readers,

My new obsession with shoes is unexplainable. I have found myself automatically drawn to shoe stores as if in a trance. I’ve decided to share my passion for shoes by keeping you updated with the latest Summer 2011 shoe trends.

This Summer’s shoes are bold, bright, tall and funky…the more outrageous the style, the better. Here are the most current trends that are HOT this Summer.

Wedge Heels

Wedges have surely dominated the Summer season and are hotter than ever.  They are comfortable and fashionable. Wedge heels offer comfort and ease in walking unlike other shoe types. Flattering for every stature and perfect for the warm weather, wedges are sure to compliment your Summer pedicure. They need not be typical and boring. Today’s wedge heels have everything from embellishments, cut-out details and more. Braided leather, crochet, and woven trellis are all hot trends for Summer. Wedge heels are versatile and can be paired with stylish summer dresses, floral printed tops, boho-inspired looks and more.

Kitten Heels

A kitten heel is a short, slender heel, usually 1.5 inches high with a slight curve setting the heel in from the edge of the shoe. Especially popular on pumps, kitten heels can be found on many types of women’s dress shoes. More than just being a low heel, what makes a kitten heel is the placement and the shape of the heel. They are usually worn by women who are especially tall, who want the curve and sex appeal of a high heel, but not the added height. They’re cute, feminine and great for accentuating your ankles and calves, without the pain of stilettos. They will easily take you from day to night and make a sexyfab shoe staple this season. Many women are skeptical about kitten heels but it’s easy to rock them without compromising your sexfab-ness. First of all, you need to wear them with the right pieces. Wide leg trousers are a huge look for this season and look fabulous teamed with lower heels. If you prefer skinny, cigarette or cropped style trousers, lower heels also add a demure touch. This look is especially flattering for tall ladies.

Clogs

Clogs are perfect for this season. They can sometimes look a bit heavy, are a simple way to add unusual flair to your outfit while maintaining that effortless cool we all long to obtain during the steamy summer months. They are structural, with the bottom part made of wood while the top part comes in different styles but mostly leather, in any color or even prints. In a hot day of summer, no outfit is more practical if you pull it off with these shoes. They stand out by themselves so keep it simple. Whenever you’re sporting a trendy or over-the-top item, it’s a good idea to keep the rest of your look classic and simple. This way your center piece, your clogs, will stand out.

Flatforms

The newest trend this season is the shoes on a flat platform or “flatforms”. They are platform and heels of equal height which offer comfort while adding a few centimeters in height. Natural materials like wood, raffia, cork and canvas are used to give these shoes texture and contrast against the blocking trend. You could wear this trend with just about anything. They could be easily paired with long skirts or maxi dresses. Flatforms are considered the “it” shoes for 2011!!!

Chunky Heels

Chunky heels are terrific since they’re safer to get around in than stilettos and have better longevity as they’re not going to get damaged in cracks or dirt.

Strappy High Heels

High heel strappy sandals are a staple for those warm summer months. They flatter nearly everything and they take you anywhere. Leave a lasting impression with thin strapped high-heeled sandals. The more colorful they are the better. You could also thick straps or straps made from other materials like satin or organza. An interesting trend is those high heels with straps which you could tie and make a beautiful bow or flower.

Stiletto Booties

Cut-outs, lace-ups and wrap-arounds are making stiletto booties all the rage. Show off tan legs in these fluorescent shoes worn with a mini or fun Summer dress. Combine them with different prints and patterns, to complete the Summer trend.

Ballet Flats

Although in the past ballet flats were considered as boring and have never been associated with the word sexyfab lately, designers have proven that ballet flats can be sexy, fab and chic. They are the most comfortable choice of every woman regardless of age. An alternative to ballet flats are the Oxford shoes which remain among the hottest trends. Choose embellished flats with studs, glitter, and bows to dress up any cute dress or stylish pair of jeans while keeping your feet from hating you. You can’t go wrong with versatile flats this Summer, they look great with everything.

Gladiator Sandals

Ankle-high gladiator sandals in a simple look good on almost any leg shape and complement slim legs. If you have thick ankles, go for T-straps
and some heel to create a long and lean vertical line. Mid-calf gladiators only look good on slender legs. They’ll make short or thick legs look stumpy. You can wear gladiators with everything: mini dresses, maxi dresses, shorts, pants, jeans, skirts. For long and lean look, pair high-heeled black gladiator sandals with skinny black jeans.

Leather Fringing

One of the best ways to wear fringe is on your shoes. There are plenty of choices for fringe shoes to choose from and they vary in style from flat sandals to heels, boots and wedges. No matter the type of shoe you are looking for, there is a fringe option to choose from.

Shoe Color Trends

If you’re going beyond the neutral basics black, white, brown, and tan, here are a few colors you should consider adding. They can perk up a neutral outfit with a pop of color, or complement a similarly hued look. Try these:

  • Ink Blue
  • Turquoise
  • Lime green
  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Red
  • Magenta
  • Coral
  • Prints (floral, geometric and animal)
  • Exotic skins

What’s your must have for Summer 2011? Whatever you choose, always wear it with confidence! Let me know what you’re thinking with a comment.
